If You Don’t Fit in a Box, You’ll Fit Right In
If you don’t fit in a box, you’ll fit right. I am writing for a community of authors, screenwriters, journalists, creatives, musicians, and people of who build things. You think deeply. Many of you do that as part of your creative process. Others do it for sport. You enjoy puzzling over things that make little sense, deciphering the indecipherable, and figuring things out. You may be neurotypical or you may think differently than most. You relish irony, humor, and making sense of the world.
Who am I? It’s Complicated
Who am I? I am an adult adoptee who became an Emmy Award-winning television journalist and investigative reporter. After getting married and becoming a mother, I started a retained executive search firm. But I’ve never lost the urge to write or my passion for investigating wrongdoing for the greater good.
Wit and Wisdom
I will write the stream-of-consciousness wit and wisdom that I usually direct at my spouse. I opine. So much so, that my daughter gently suggested I do so anonymously. Yet woman-behind-the-curtain cowardice is not my style, partly because my mother taught me I could never go wrong with the truth.
“You Never Go Wrong With The Truth”
While little white lies of politeness could prove my mother’s assertion wrong, she lived and spoke with abandon — as if feelings didn’t matter. She also gestured with abandon with broad and sudden outward sweeps of her arms that would occasionally smack dinner guests to the right or left.
Constant Need to Say Outloud What Was in Her Head
A psychiatrist once informed me that my mother was on the autism spectrum, which might explain her lack of social graces and empathy. That reframing helped me feel considerably better. My challenges with her weren’t all my fault. She was merely channeling the constant need to say out loud what was in her head.
Bold Opining is My Love Language
Ironically, her bold opining is my love language. She had a voice and she used it, damn it. She used her sneeze too. As shocking as it was deafening, her call of the wild stopped everyone in their tracks with wonder as in “WTF was that?”
So, let’s get loud, shall we?
